Poets with a cause!
I'm so glad to be organising and taking part in this offering from Spoken Word Artists all across the UK, putting our voices together and giving our time to raise money which will be given away to help promote peace and restoration in Palestine.
The idea was born between myself and Beth Calverley, that we could offer some of our artistic skills as prizes in a raffle. We've since got other great names involved, and now there's over £1000's worth of books, art, and mentoring available for as little as £2 per ticket. Anybody who wants to raise their poetry game; bag a great Christmas present for an aspiring artist friend; or anybody with half a heart who recognises an indisputably good cause, would be foolish not to participate.
Sales will be open until the end of November and the link is here:
Alongside me we're currently featuring
Adam Holton the public typist.
Alison Powell offering 1-1 mentoring that draws on her experiences as a writer, a workshop leader and an NLP Master Practitioner.
Beth Calverley poet and founder of The Poetry Machine.
Clare Ferguson-Walker a singer, poet and comedienne
Fawn Press an award-winning independent publisher of poetry based in the midlands.
Harula Ladd Writer and facilitator of workshops, on the spot poem writing, open mic hosting, retreats and commissions.
Jasmine Gardosi is the Birmingham Poet Laureate and Honorary Doctor of Letters.
Lucy Lepchani Poet, writer and editor.
Tom Hirons Editor of Clarion quarterly poetry magazine.
Incidentally, speaking of using my poetry skills for pro-active efforts in this world, I'm also supporting / volunteer-administrating for this epic literary event coming up in Bristol this October:
In days gone by, I feel i would have travelled and made a point of being physically useful, in terms of aid or intervention; when such harm is being done to innocent civilians anywhere. These days I am not so free to drop everything. It feels distant and meagre, but raising money is something - and seeing that it goes to direct and effective applications is what I can do.
By supporting either of these causes you are enabling money for immediate medicine; travel to safety; political campaigning for peace and solidarity; and protection of aid convoys; in a place where people of every kind have been blown-apart and decimated by indiscriminate weapons - including those made in the UK.
